Here are some pros and (debatable) cons:
Pros:
- Quality of life is great. There’s a laid back Cali vibe here.
- Not cheap but more affordable than the Mercaz (Tel Aviv/Jeru). You can get a nice new apartment or an old house with 3-4 bedrooms for ~5-6k nis, or beautiful homes ~7k nis and up. (Edited 2021: housing is currently hard to come by)
- Plenty of amenities but doesn’t feel like a big city.
- Good people. Highly educated. Diverse.
- Plenty of English but not too much that you can’t integrate if you really try.
- The beach 🏖 is gorgeous (just down the mountain), and the Ramat Hanadiv gardens are amazing, unlike anything in Israel. The midrachov (main strip in town) has cute shops, bars, restaurants, and events on the holidays... it’s small but quaint :)
- The history here is tangible (shul built in 1890’s, homes of pioneers line the midrachov)
Debatable cons:
- A bit scattered/no centralized community. If you prefer to have some breathing space, this can be a pro. I’m coming from a tight-knit community in the states so I’d love to have a more centralized community, around a shul ideally. That being said, there are multiple communities /chessed groups here that really help out when you’re in need (meals after babies/surgeries etc.), and we have plenty of friends scattered throughout the town.
- The hills make shorter distances feel longer.. but again that can also a pro since it means we have great ocean views.
- Religiously, it’s mostly secular or traditional here, with a modern orthodox/Dati Leumi/Lite community, an Israeli Charedi community.. and even a Protestant community. The is an effort to bring more Torah learning to the town, but it’s generally a more modern population here.

The city is a complete cross-section of Israel, comprised of secular, traditional, religious, and Haredi Israeli's and Anglos.
The town is centered around the "midrachov" which features a host of quaint cafe's quiet alleyway, wineries, and artisan shops.
Housing options range from apartments, town houses, and free standing houses too. There are an abundance of educational institutions, health clinics, shopping centers etc.
The Ramat Hanadiv nature reserve is accessible from multiple parts of town leading to beautiful biking and walking trails.
Tel Aviv is a short 30 minute train ride away, with plenty of other high tech parks in the vicinity, such as Yokneam, Caesarea, Haifa etc.
With dozens of parks, and green spaces it's a wonderful place to raise children too!

It has a quiet suburban feel, but still has lots of amenities like a big city. Living here feels like vacation all the time, but with scattered neighborhoods and a diverse demographic, the community is not very tight-knit.
