Code of Ethics

& Community Guidelines

Our goal is to encourage genuine and truthful expression while being careful to respect others’ perspectives. We’ve developed a Code of Ethics to set the tone for our brand, as well as a set of Community Guidelines to help us keep Atmo a safe and reliable resource for everyone. If you come across content that you think is inappropriate, you can use the flagging feature to submit it for review by our staff. Thank you for helping us keep Atmo clean and kind.

Code of Ethics

Our code of ethics is quite simple, it’s based on the Golden Rule of reciprocity; Love your fellow as yourself (treat others as you want to be treated). It’s easy to say but not always easy to do, but we think it’s possible with respect for diversity, authenticity, and a good ol' dose of empathy.

Respect the diversity of perspective.

The world is beautifully diverse. We can choose to celebrate that fact and support people of all backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints. When we use welcoming and inclusive language, we can use our differences as strengths and create an environment where people feel comfortable, and open to entertaining new ideas and thoughts.

Be authentic.

We all want to be surrounded by genuine and honest people; people who are true to themselves and speak the truth. While we ask you to help us represent the true nature of places, we know that honesty isn’t always kind. We wholeheartedly agree with Henry David Thoreau when he said, “The only way to tell the truth is to speak with kindness. Only the words of a loving man can be heard”.

Have empathy.

What you say and share with others matters. It affects the way others think, make decisions, and are perceived. Wield that power carefully and choose your words with empathy in the foreground. We’re all on our own journeys in life, and it’s hard to truly imagine ourselves in someone else's shoes. Yet a genuine concern for others is what makes us most human. When we have empathy, we can foster more meaningful, genuine, and kind interactions.

Community Guidelines

Any slander, gossip, bullying, or harassment of individuals is not allowed on Atmo. This includes mean-spirited content, content that could damage someone’s reputation, dehumanizing individuals, using stereotypes that incite or promote hatred, claiming that groups or individuals are physically or mentally inferior or diseased to promote hatred. We remove content promoting violence or hatred against individuals or groups based on any of the following attributes: age, caste, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, nationality, race, immigration status, religion, sex/gender, sexual Orientation, victims of a major violent event and their families, veteran status.

Privacy and safety: It’s important for us to maintain the privacy and anonymity of community members. We remove content that encourages real-world harm, including (but not limited to) physical, financial, and emotional injury. Confidential information must be kept confidential and private individuals must not be mentioned in comments, Atmo tags, or community groups. For content to be considered for removal, an individual must be uniquely identifiable. Revealing someone’s personal information, such as their image, full name, address, private email addresses, private phone numbers, passport number, or bank account information is not allowed on Atmo (this does not include posting widely available public information, such as a public official’s office phone number). When you report a privacy complaint, we consider public interest, newsworthiness, and consent as factors in our final decision. Let us know if any content on the site violates your privacy or sense of safety.

Inappropriate content: Crude, vulgar, sexually explicit language or excessive profanity and swearing is not allowed on Atmo.

Deceptive practices: Spam, scams, and other deceptive practices that take advantage of our community aren’t allowed on Atmo. We also don’t allow content where the main purpose is to trick people into leaving Atmo for another site. Misleading descriptions, tags, titles, and comments are not allowed. Content about surveys or giveaways that promote pyramid schemes, Pay Per Click referral links in comments, posting links to malware or phishing site in comments, comments with links to counterfeit stores, posting the same comment over and over again with a link to your services or channel, are all not allowed.

What happens when content violates our community guidelines:
When something is reported, it’s not automatically taken down. Reported content is reviewed by our staff to determine whether posts will be deleted, and whether members will be removed from the community. If you flag someone else’s content, it will be anonymous. If your own content violates our guidelines, we’ll remove the content and send you an email to let you know. If this is the first time you’ve posted content that violates our Community Guidelines, you’ll get a warning. If it’s not, we’ll issue a strike against your account. Your account will be terminated if you receive 3 strikes. By using Atmo, you agree to these guidelines and our Terms of Use. Overstepping these boundaries may result in deleted content, disabled accounts, or other restrictions.
